France is a country known for its beautiful chateaux and breathtaking scenery. From the stunning and unique grand castles of the Paris region to the family feel of the venues and hotels of Provence, there’s no shortage of beautiful locations with amazing grounds to choose from for your dream wedding. However, as with any location in the world, planning a wedding means considering the possibility of bad weather. Rain on your wedding day can happen unfortunately, even in summer… So choosing a French wedding venue that will allow you to adapt to weather is paramount for the success of your event (and you sanity)!
With our 12+ years experience planning destination weddings in France, we have been in such situations and we know first hand how important having a solid backup rain plan is. Does that mean you need to select a wedding venue with an indoor space? Our simple answer is: it depends on your budget.
If you’re working with a tight budget, selecting a venue with an indoor space can save you money in the long run. You won’t have to put money down to have a marquee kept on hold for you, which can be a significant additional expense. With an indoor space at your venue, you can relax knowing that your wedding will go ahead rain or shine. This will probably mean some beautiful venues without an indoor space will have to be crossed from your short list, but it is the best way to keep control of your budget.
On the other hand, if you have some budget flexibility, you might consider opening up your venue search to locations without indoor space. There are many stunning venues in France that offer beautiful outdoor spaces, which can be enhanced with a marquee or tent in case of rain. This opens up a world of possibilities for your wedding, allowing you to select a venue that truly speaks to your vision.
Regardless of your final French wedding venue choice, it’s important to consider the logistics of a rainy day. Make sure the venue has ample space indoor or outdoor, for each part of the day, and that there’s easy access for guests in case of rain.
